My Journey to Grandma’s Marathon Continues.

Today was week three on my journey to 26.2 for Grandma’s Marathon on June 16th! I am so excited and I’m learning so much about myself along the way. This whole week I discouraged myself for this run, I kept telling myself, “8 miles is a lot, I don’t think I can do it.” Then the forecast made me start breathing a little heavier and thinking maybe I’ll just run inside on a treadmill. (Something I said I would never do for a long run!) There’s something about being outside and feeling everything.

So, today I took the girls to the Children’s Museum, we had a blast, the wind was blowing, it was sunny one minute and gloomy the next. I sent Travis a text and said, “I hope these winds die down before I have to run later.” I looked at the weather and wrote back, “they’re going to die down two mph, maybe I should run 4 miles inside and 4 outside?” He said, “on a treadmill?” He knows that I’m not keen about running on a treadmill. I then responded back, “I can do this, if I start dying, I’ll call you to pick me up.” He responds with, “You got this babe!” And you know what? I did. I motivated myself, I got excited, I said, “you can do this!”

I left for my run, my pace was on point, on mile 4, I even hit a 7:56 pace, I was like, “this girl is on fire!” Now, let’s go to mile 6, I hit the shores of Lake Superior, with snow gusting across the bike path and major wind. I should of turned around at mile 4 and went back the way I came but I’m not a huge fan of turning around, I’m a huge “loop route” person. I had to stop by the Superior Dome on the bike path because there was so many drifts and ice, I had to turn around and take roads and finally I hit mile 8, but then I realized my run home was probably about two more miles. So, me being the determined person I am, I decided, “go for it, do it.” So I did, I got close to home and hit mile 10 and I was happy, I felt great, I was smiling, because I did it! I walked in the door and Travis, Mallorie and Makenzie were cheering. Travis said, “how do you feel?” I responded with, “I actually went 10 miles and I feel amazing!”

So long story short, there are moments in your journey when you don’t give it a chance before even trying it. I did that to myself this week, I gave up on myself before even trying. That’s probably why when I hit mile 4, I didn’t just turn around, it’s like I knew I was going to go longer and it ended up being the best thing for me. I feel accomplished and happy and so determined to finish 26.2 in June.

I hope all of you reading this, take something from it. There’s so much to be thankful for in life, be the best version of yourself, have balance in your life, set goals, and achieve them.

Xoxo,
Melodie 🙂

Taking care of business

Oh my goodness, what a month March has been! Busy is an understatement, and I wouldn’t have it any other way. I’m still getting in my workouts and fulfilling my nutrition goals with a few cheats here and there because life is about balance, right?

Last Saturday marked 12 weeks until Grandma’s Marathon on June 16th. I ran my first 4 miles and I felt pretty darn good. It’s amazing all the mixed workouts I do, how good I felt running. My first run was in 24-degree weather and sunshine. I figure the weather is only going to get better. 😉

There’s so much to be said for getting in those workouts every day and that it what keeps me going through these icky days we have when the sun is not shining. Who else loves when the sun shines every day!?

I wanted to share my latest favorite breakfast/snack recipe.

6 Large Eggs

3/4 C Heavy Whipping Cream

1/2 C Shredded Cheese of choice

5 slices bacon (cooked)

2 oz yellow onion

Salt & Pepper

Mix all ingredients, bake at 350 degrees for 30-35 minutes. Cut into 8 pieces.

Another new month!

I feel like February just began and here we are, it’s March. February is a fun month because Mallorie turned “four” on February 26 and we had her party over the weekend and she had so much fun!! This was a BIG year for her. She planned out a lot of the details on Pinterest to have the perfect Belle Party!

I’ve been on track with my fitness and nutrition for the most part and some days I’m even getting in TWO workouts! Mom for the win! I need to post more, which is going to be my focus this month. I’ve been doing a bunch of other stuff on the side as well so I’m just trying to find my blog flow! I have many “thoughts” written down and look forward to continuing to share them with you all!

This week Travis and I are doing the Motions 5 Day Detoxification Program, today is Day 5 and I just love it, total game changer! If you’re interested in getting the detox, go to their website, I highly recommend! www.motionsfitness.com So, as I head into the weekend, I feel in complete control of what I’m going to put in my body.

Have a great weekend!

Goals :)

From Travis’ 30th Birthday(December 2) and through to Christmas and the New Year, I didn’t go crazy on calorie/macro counting. When January 1st hit, I decided to buckle down and get back on track.

It’s amazing how fast your body starts changing and I’m having a blast with my workouts as well.

Life can be so busy but I know one thing, it’s so easy to fuel your body with all the right things.

2018 is off to a great start!

So, we’re six days into February! I’ve been going strong with clean eating and great workouts. I don’t think you ever realize how good you feel until you really hone in again on all aspects of your physical movement and eating, I’m a happy person in general but feeling strong and eating clean just brings me to a whole new level, and I absolutely love it!

I thought I’d let you all in on my 2018 goal. I always said I would do a marathon before I turned 30. Well, I don’t turn 30 until next year but I’ve always wanted to do Grandma’s Marathon and it’s in June and I’ll be 30 next May. So guess what? I am all signed up to run 26.2 miles on June 16, 2018! 🙌🏼

I also thought I would share what we had for dinner last night:

Pork Chops

1 tbsp Cream Cheese per Chop

Seasoned with garlic powder, onion powder, salt and pepper.

Baked at 350 for 30 mins

Paired with sautéed mushrooms, onions and tomatoes in a 1/2 tbsp of olive oil sprinkled with salt, pepper and 2 tsp Parmesan cheese.

Macros are for 4oz of pork

Taking time for yourself

Do you ever just feel so empowered and ready to get things done? And you make lists and it feels so good to check things off but then there’s those tasks that just seem to stay on the list or get erased because you just don’t ever get to it. This weekend I am conquering those tasks, no excuses. How? Well, being a stay at home Mom is amazing and fun and having the a ability to do so is like no other, but it seems every time I try to get into something on my computer someone needs a snack or needs help in the potty or just wants some attention, which is what being a mommy is all about, don’t get me wrong! So, when do I find time to do things I need to get done? When they’re sleeping at night, I tend to stay up until 11 or midnight every night for that “me” time and on weekends I go to a coffee shop when Travis is home and I can fully focus on my tasks. I never started doing that until recently, and wow, it’s a game changer, a cup of coffee and checking off my to do list!

So, this leads into my biggest word of advice to any mom, whether you’re a stay at home mom or a working mom. Always, always take time for yourself. Don’t feel selfish when you spend those extra 15-20 minutes at Target, don’t feel like you can’t your hair done or get a massage, do it because it makes you that much better of a mama. I’ve learned to go when I’m told! 😉

Currently, laying in bed because Travis told me I needed to just lay and relax, and guess what? I took a 15 minute nap, now I’m writing this blog post with a clear mind all while listening to giggles downstairs from my girlies with their daddy. Life is great!!

New Year, Great Start

The New Year is off to a great start. Seriously, so much energy, motivation and just feeling awesome. I mean there’s just something about fueling your body with the right food, vitamins and great workouts.

I thought I would share one of my favorite lunches from this week:

2 Leafs of Romaine Lettuce
5 Grape Tomatoes
5 Green Olives
1 tbsp cilantro
1 tbsp avocado
2 oz turkey breast
1 oz salami
1/2 oz mozzarella cheese
1/2 tbsp Newman’s Creamy Cesar Dressing

Staying on track tip: Keep your food scale on the counter, and if you don’t have one, click here for the one I love!

I win

Ok, so here it is. I went to Target yesterday and bought chicken, veggies, cheese and a couple other things because I figured I didn’t need to buy much until we meal planned for the week.

So, last night Travis looked at me and said, “I don’t even know what you bought at Target but it wasn’t anything for me.” OK, his favorite meal is chicken fried rice, but we don’t eat rice anymore, so I decided to re-create chicken fried rice with cauliflower, and guess what? He loved it. I WIN!

16 oz chicken tenders cooked in

1 tbsp salted organic butter

1 bag frozen cauliflower cooked

1.5 cups broccoli

3 sliced up baby carrots

1 tbsp soy sauce

Sprinkle Ginger, salt, peppa(haha), and garlic powder

Enjoy!

2018 so far..

So far 2018 is off to a great start! Eating mostly in check, and exercising every day for at least 30 minutes has happened!

As a stay at home mom, things like feeling like I’m getting everything accomplished can be a challenge. I try to structure my weeks with lists so that I have a main focus each day and then once that’s complete, I focus on the girls completely for the rest of the day.

I’ve also been trying to get up before the girls do to do my workout so I have that extra time in the morning, but that’s only happened a couple times. It’s so easy to stay in bed. My girls go to bed around 8:45-9:15 and sleep until 9-9:30! I go to bed later and have “me” time so that’s why I enjoy sleeping in a bit!

Does anyone have any suggestions on topics for my blog you’d like me to touch on? Comment or email me melodiemariealexander@gmail.com.
